The 80s at Mr Smiths saw the club thrive. Nights out the club were a spectacle to behold. The club was always decorated with a theme and the bar staff wore fancy dress. A model of a space ship used to descend from the ceiling in a mist of dry ice and land in the centre of the dance floor. The doors would open and from inside the space ship would come the DJs followed by dancers in space costumes and a family of midgets from Bolton would be dressed up as little green men.
Rick Astley even made his debut appearance at Mr Smiths when he first performed 'Never Gonna Give You Up'
The 90's at Mr Smiths saw the introduction of Hi-energy disco. The club still enjoyed great success with queues outside equalling the number of people inside.
Mondays at Mr Smiths became the biggest Rave Night in the Northwest. This title was later taken by Cream although Mr Smiths can still boast starting the careers of DJs such as Carl Cox, Dave Ralph, Paul Taylor, Paul Walker and Stu Allen. Monday nights at Mr Smiths were so popular that they had a special sound system purely for that night.
